- In this concluding chapter, we take stock of the contributions of the handbook and provide suggestions about the ways that SLA and LCR can both make necessary improvements in research utilizing corpora. Topics covered include issues related to corpus design and preparation (e.g., expanding the languages and contexts studied, collecting meta-data more systematically, diversifying tasks and registers, collecting multiple sources of L2 data; and increasing transparency in transcription, coding, and annotation), corpus analysis (e.g., expanding the measures used, estimating and reporting reliability, focusing on intra-corpus variation, and adopting multifactorial designs), and Open Science and methodological expertise (e.g., sharing learner corpora and related instruments, offering more training on corpus tools and techniques, and increasing methodological publications).
