- The excavations 2005-2008 at Aiano-Torraccia di Chiusi, San Gimignano (SI), carried out by the Université catholique de Louvain (Belgium) for the project “REGIO VII. La Val d’Elsa pendantl’époque romaine et l’Antiquité tardive”, directed by Prof. Marco Cavalieri, Département d’archéologie et histoire de l’art at Louvain, brought to light the monumental remains of a Roman villa, inhabited between the 3rd and the 5th c. AD, and abandoned in the period between the end of the 5th and the beginning of the 6th c. A.D. The ruins of the representative part of the villa, altered in the 4th c., were occupied by a group of people of clear Germanic origin and underwent a change in function. The space was parceled to host various workshops in which ceramics, iron and other materials were produced. In some of the re-adapted rooms, now completely excavated, some structures for glass production can be recognized. The working remains and the studies carried out on the finds and the structures allow the reconstruction of the glass workshop and the identification of part of its production.
