Abstract
The paper presents the results of the study, the cataloging and the restoration of more than 1600 fragments of glass sectilia (mosaic glass technique) found during the excavation campaign that took place between 2009 and 2011 in the late antique villa at Aiano. The interventions consisted in removing dust and cleaning through the use of instruments such as a Laser for the most persistent concretions and fragile fragments. The restauration allowed the detailed cataloging of each single fragment providing a first subdivision based on colours scheme and possible figurative references. Thanks to the analyses carried out on colours, shapes, thicknesses, decorative motifs and, eventually, marks of instruments used by the ancient handicraftsmen, useful references have been identified in order to form a hypothesis for a general reorganization of the sectilia. These fragments are actually part of separate decorative panels with a green and turquoise background (suggesting a sea bed) with different species of fishes and molluscs.
