- (en) With regard to migration, the requirements of a life according to reason are as follows: a political life based on democratic deliberation, a civil society in which contradictory arguments are freely exchanged, social cohesion dependent on the existence of a common existence, respect for the constraints of a space of citizenship rooted in a particular history and geography. The issue of immigration has affected the health of our collective life. While Christians have been present in refugee assistance (such as the Jesuit Refugee Service), they have contributed little to critical reflection on the political and social aspects of the problem. However, where public speech and reason are placed under guardianship, violence germinates. When reality is concealed by ideological propriety, good feelings give way to popular anger. The urgent need is therefore to recreate the conditions for a democratic debate, a public voice open to pluralism, social cohesion around a common goal and collective solidarity on a human scale.
