Abstract
(en) It is a question of trying to show that there is a necessary link between the progress of the critical history in the field of the history of the Church (Louis Duchesne, Charles de Smedt) of the history of dogmas ( Albert Houtain, Pierre Batiffol, Joseph Turmel) and exegesis (Marie-Joseph Lagrange, Albin Van Hoonacker, Paulin Ladeuze) on the one hand, and the emergence of a historical conception of dogma opposed to scholastic fixist intellectualism on the other hand, intellectualism, which is also challenged by a "Christian" philosophy based on subject and experience (Blondel). The historical apologetics of Christianity developed by Alfred Loisy ("dogmas are not ready-made truths from heaven"), leads him to develop a theory of the necessary development of the Gospel in the Church on the model of the "Translation" ("Jesus announced the Kingdom and the Church came"). Independently of the question of Loisy's "historicism" (Blondel-Loisy controversy), what is posited is the historical contingency of all Christian announcements, which always unfolds in a specific space-time (idea of inculturation). . Moreover, the development of positive theology at the end of the nineteenth gave birth to a movement of rediscovering the sources of Christianity (biblical, liturgical and patristic revival), a trend that will characterize all theological research during the twentieth century. History has thus helped to bring back the act of faith to the field of cultures and the subject, an intuition already developed in its time by John Henry Newman.
