« L’éthique reconstructive et la question du coût »
(en) This paper assesses the communicative procedure of cost minimization defended by Jean-Marc Ferry in its reconstructive ethics. It acknowledges the importance of Ferry’s departures from the habermasian discourse ethics, especially regarding its opening to narrations, better fit than arguments for the expression of sufferings and singularity. However, it challenges the validity of a calculation based on subjective appraisals of cost and benefit. The latter, indeed, may rely on various ideological phenomena as beliefs, superstitions or psychological rigidity. Another approach is preferred, which aims for reasonable agreement and, while remaining open to narrations, reaffirm the primacy of reasons and arguments in the collective quest of justice.
