That Norbert Elias’s processes’ sociology contributes to a better understanding of some of the crucial political stakes of our time is not to demonstrate. For example, the European integration deserves to be situated in the very long-termed and unplanned processes of centralisation led by global interconnectedness between states, as exposed in On the Process of Civilisation. This paper aims at illustrating that a corpus constituted by this magnum opus, Humana Conditio, The society of individuals (‘Changes in the we-I Balance’) and Studies on the Germans, is highly stimulating to question further the possible meanings of a cosmopolitan political community.
