- The ‘Horizontal Metropolis’ was a theoretical proposition put forward by the office Studio12 as it imagined Brussels2040. Is Belgium a pertinent territory for this alternative, formulated as a counter-model to the ongoing metropolization? For a long time, its specific urbanization has in any case provoked movements of resistance in the face of the main urban theories. This text highlights some of the milestones in this history of counterpoints, each represented by a publication. If at first their objective was to legitimize a fact, today they enable us to reflect frontally on our major social choices.
