- Vestibular loss is a sensorial disorder that affects our vestibular system and leads to vertigo, dizziness, nausea, or imbalance. Previous research has shown that, in addition to these physical symptoms, the loss of balance control also alters our emotional and cognitive state. However, the specific mechanisms altered by the vestibular loss are still debated. In this thesis, we aim to provide a better understanding of these mechanisms for adult and child vestibular loss patients. With several subjective and objective neuropsychological measures, we evaluated the impact of the vestibular loss on emotional state and we provide different cognitive profiles of patients. Our research confirmed the involvement of the vestibular system far beyond the classical physical symptoms and it brings interesting new hypotheses about the vestibular compensation process.
