The purpose of this research is to explore the articulation of public transport networks and the areas they cover. It contributes to this general challenge by studying the role of Brussels metro stations in relation to the structuring, shaping, and animation of the city's public spaces. The erudite author approaches this challenge from an interdisciplinary perspective, combining the points of view of the architect, the urban planner and the transport engineer in order to examine the public mobility project in its multidimensionality and multiscalarity. It describes the history and development of the Brussels metro project, showing the evolution of logic and strategies concerning the choice of routes, the materiality of equipment and the organisation of the service. It proposes a typology and a walk through the projects of yesterday, today and tomorrow, highlighting the specificities and challenges of the metro station design as a facility and public space between the city and its network. And finally, it raises the question of the involvement of users in the construction of a wide range of public services for plural mobility in a city undergoing ecological and social change.
