Gifted children are often described as precocious in cognitive development. Their intelligence also seems to give them early access to metaphysical questions and concerns such as socio-moral and religious reflections, moral competence, existential questioning, intention of prosocial behavior and a sense of justice. While this propensity is underpinned by attributes of their intelligence, multiple non-intellectual and environmental factors also come into play. In the research reported in this thesis, the respective roles of the different variables are discussed.
