- Research focuses on the Duchy of Brabant, part of the Low-Countries, between 1404 and 1633. It is mainly based on copies of the various graces granted by the prince - remissions, pardons, abolitions, etc. -, on accounts of seal’s right and on different pieces of legislation. These sources show the growth of the power of the prince and the construction of an administrative and state structure. this construction promotes the use of writing. It withstood the two great political crises of 1477 and the end of the 16th century. The population addresses requests to the prince, responding to them, he forgives various cases perpetrated by virtue of his grace especial. The prince sets himself up as an essential actor in the process of civilisation of the violence and the government of peoples.
