Instructional Practices (IP) are important features of students’ learning environment. Yet, the effects of IP on students’ success among the first year at the university remains disregarded. In order to overcome this limitation, the current study propose to analyze the impact of IP on more than 2.000 students participating in 20 different courses. Multilevel analyses allowed us to assess the impact of IP on students’ success in interaction with student’s psychosocial factors. Moreover, focus group were carried out with students to understand more deeply the role of the teacher in their adjustment to Higher Education. These results provided several guidelines to improve IP in order to ease students’ transition process to Higher Education.
