Emotional intelligence has spanned a tremendous scholars’ interest over recent years and is now recognized as an important self-regulatory resource helping individuals to anticipate and cope with career-related challenges. However, despite the increasing studies on emotional intelligence in career sciences, most studies mainly relied upon variable-centered approaches to investigate its effects on career-related processes. In the current presentation, we first aim to present the relevance of using a person-centered approach with regard to the concept of emotional intelligence, specifically in the context of career development. Second, we will present preliminary evidence of how emotional intelligence profiles predict career-related outcomes in the context of the school-to-work transition. Finally, we highlight some limitations and propose new insights for future research, such as integrative approaches in studying emotional intelligence profiles in career development.
