Abstract
Absorptive parts in penguin amplitudes lead to direct /b CP/ violation in B-meson decay partial rate asymmetries. Exclusive b rarr d modes, such as B/sup +/ rarr K/sup +/K macr /sup 0/* or B /sup 0/ rarr K/sup 0/K macr 0 may be more promising for /b CP / studies within the standard model. Typical branching ratios are of order 10/sup -6/, with asymmetries of O(10%) quite plausible. One could further gain by summing over available modes, without suffering from cancellation in the asymmetries. 10/sup 8/ B mesons may suffice, and one is not restricted to the asymmetric e/sup +/e/sup -/ B-factory environment at Upsi (4S) energies.
