Abstract
Soil water distribution is intrinsically heterogeneous due to the time and space variability of soil hydraulic properties, boundary conditions (infiltration, drainage, evaporation) and root water uptake. Plants need to deal with this heterogeneity because their transpiration is physically linked to photosynthesis, especially Under water deficit conditions.
