Abstract
(en) The internet is on the way of becoming the principle means of telecommunication. The growing demand for better and reliable on-line services rises issues for managerial and strategical solutions that often call for sound technical and theoretical remedies. Internet traffic engineering techniques have been successfully applied to resolve these issues throughout the last two decades. In this PhD thesis, we study the development of mathematical techniques and software tools to solve the intra-domain traffic engineering (TE) problems. We develop and implement three distinct tools, IGP-WO, FastIPMetric and ObliviousIGP-WO, that solve the IGP metric optimization problem and some of its extensions. We integrate our intra-domain TE tools in the open source software, called TOTEM, which we have developed in the recent years. We evaluate the performance of our methods and tools using a range of testbed and problem instances, where we present promising and fruitful results for intra-domain traffic engineering with the hope of having answered some of its critical issues.
