(2026) Identité ethnique et groupes sociaux chez les peuples de l’Italie préromaine: une approche multidisciplinaire — Location: UCLouvain, Louvain-la-Neuve (23.May.2023)
The contribution addresses the issue of collective identities in central Italy before the Roman conquest. Identities that, as it is proposed, are to be understood as multiscalar and nested in each other and whose activation is linked to historical context and contingency. In an attempt to identify these identities, with a particular focus on the archaic age, we follow the case of the Sabines, for whom ancient sources testify to a certain primacy among the various Italic populations. To investigate these identities we will follow the various available clues (sources, epigraphy, material culture), from both an emic and an etic perspective.
