- Four times already, teams of the British School at Athens have descended upon Palaikastro intent on finding a palace; each time they were unsuccessful in this objective. And whereas it is much too early to bury the idea that no canonical ‘palace’ existed at the site – there is, after all, enough unexplored room left in this 20+ ha settlement to hide such a building and certain areas such as Block DD have barely been explored (PK VII: 210-215; PK VIII: 180) – we may consider, hypothetically, the possibility that Palaikastro may not have had one, which is what this paper attempts.
