Isobutene is an important intermediate species in pyrolysis end oxidation of iso-octane, also MTBE and ETBE, which are used worldwide as octane enhancer. To be able to model correctly the combustion of these fuel in engines, it is necessary to understand more precisely the oxidation mechanism of isobutene. Several previous studies of isobutene in experimental setup at high pressure have been performed. To the best of our knowledge, laminar premixed flat isobutene flames have not yet been investigated in termes of their structure. The aim of this work is to measure mole fraction profiles in a flat lean isobutene flame (Φ = 0.225) at low pressure, and to build a reaction submechanism which will be incorporated into an already validated model for rich ethylene/dimethoxymethane flames.
