Abstract
Pancreas transplantation is the gold standard treatment for pancreas endocrine replacement treatment with excellent current results as the 5 years-survival approaches 93%. Perioperative care not only include general cares common to other complicated surgical procedures, but also specific cares related to the transplant procedure as well as specific surveillance related to the pancreas graft itself. In this context, postoperative care are provided either in intensive care units or, in some hospitals, in the surgical ward. Those cares include antibioprophylaxis, glycemic control, deep vein and graft thrombosis prophylaxis, nutrition and antalgic measures. Some other treatments such as somatostatin analogues are proposed but are still a matter of debate. While immunosuppression is not reviewed in this chapter, the other postoperative cares are discussed.
