- Abstract
- (en) Like many large cities, the Brussels-Capital Region is confronted with neighborhoods that have concentrated for several decades the least favored populations on the socio-economic level (inter-generational poverty, high unemployment rate, drop-out rates, etc.). Populations from these neighborhoods are at high risk of confronting digital exclusion. Research on digital inclusion in the urban context suggests that an uneven spatial distribution of digital resources has a negative impact on the development and quality of social life in a city. It is therefore essential that this dimension of digital inequality by neighborhood be analyzed and understood so that it can be taken into account effectively in the development of digital inclusion strategies by policy makers. In response to a request from the Computer Center of the Brussels Region, this study aims to better understand the phenomenon of urban digital inequalities in the Brussels-Capital Region (scale, nature, geographical disparities) with a view to proposing ways for the development of a sustainable and integrated digital inclusion strategy in Brussels.
