Abstract
Absolute cross-section measurements are reported for electron impact ionization of Ni12+ and Ni14+ in an energy range from threshold to about 5.5 keV. For single ionization, data show that the first observed threshold corresponds to the metastable state [Ne]3s(2)3p(4) (1)So which is located 12 eV above the ground state. Excitation-autoionization is seen to play a dominant role for this reaction in the whole energy range. Double ionization is seen to be dominated by L-shell ionization followed by total autoionization. For Ni12+, triple ionization is found to be two orders of magnitude lower than double ionization and is attributed to direct ionization only.
