- (en) In quantitative research, the notion of Quality of Life instantiates the interest elicited by schizophrenic patients’ own subjective experience of their difficulties, of their resources and of their well-being. Based on a review of the literature and on a case study, this article questions the relevance of this concept for the establishment of a diagnosis and for management of the follow-up. In contrast to our stated objectives, the theoretical and methodological framework that subtends this concept results in a minimization of the subjective expression. Considering the case of M. V., central elements for follow-up remain ignored by this standardized approach that fails to articulate symptomatology with the singular logic of a trajectory through existence. The authors therefore conclude that the concept of Quality of Life is positioned less as a satisfactory alternative than as a complement to the deficit approach to schizophrenia.
