Abstract
(en) War and peace have many factors or causes that cannot explain separately the complexity of some situations such as the war in Congo-Zaïre (Democratic Republic of the Congo) since 1996. And yet, crossing theories of Peace and War, these two antonymic phenomena are linked to the same determinants, as this study shows throw the concept of “the potential of peace” (the counter-part of the risk of war). This potential of peace is theoretically supposed to lie on the integration and the viability of the state. The integration of the state matters (deals) with three fields: the space (country), the society (cultural) and modernity; whereas the viability can be intrinsic (toward the state itself), inner(toward internal environment) or outer (in concern with the external environment). These six dimensions of the two variables make it possible to grasp partial theories relevant for the case of Congo-Zaïre through a pyramidal theoretical model. Thus, the War or the luck of peace in Congo-Zaïre is due to a weak potential of peace, characterized by a tridimensional weak integration mixed with a tridimensional weak viability. The interactions between these six dimensions should be taken into account for a better peace building process in this country, as this thesis shows how in its conclusion.
