- Abstract
- This paper is designed to provide Restorative Justice (RJ) facilitators with practical advice, guidance and tips on how to facilitate Restorative Justice meetings in cases of violent extremism and hate crime.This paper is the result of discussions, debates and presentations between November 2019 and June 2021 by the European Forum for Restorative Justice (EFRJ) Working Group on Violent Extremism. The aim of this paper is to offer insight into factors that should be considered when facilitating Restorative Justice meetings in these complex and sensitive cases. The main audience is RJ facilitators and managers of RJ services. This paper also aims to stimulate further debate and development of restorative practice with these violent crimes; for this reason, some examples may refer to types of hate crimes and polarisation that did not (yet) end with violent extremist and terrorist attacks.
