(en) The elegant work carried out by Zhang et al and reported in this issue of the Journal of Allergy and Clinical Immunology1 establishes that exosomes activate (and are uptaken by) monocyte-derived, inflammatory dendritic cells (DCs) through contactin-1 and Notch2 activation, which in turn promotes TH2 cell– and TH17 cell–polarized immune activation along with mucus production and smooth muscle hyperresponsiveness.
