In this paper, we focused on a problem of optimizing the management of blood products. We treat this problem as an inventory routing problem while taking into account the particularities of blood products namely perishability, different shelf life, substitution between blood groups. In addition, we authorize the transshipment (the transfer of products between hospitals) under certain conditions. We formulate this problem as an integer linear program whose objective function is to minimize the costs of storage, distribution, obsolescence, transfer and substitution. Computational tests were carried out in eight small sizes instances. The results show that the exact method cannot be used to solve a problem of real size.
