(en) Mental health professionals with a focus on children are frequently consulted about a particular symptom: the “king-child”. This symptom confronts parents and child and questions the kind of family relationships. This article raises some questions related to this behavior such as: What is the meaning of authority? Do we have to limit the child? How to link attachment ties with educational purposes? With the support of some knowledge about the affective development of the child, we propose some cornerstones for therapeutic strategies with the “king-child” and his family.
