INTRODUCTION : Crowned dens syndrome is defined by the presence of calcium crystal deposits surrounding the dens of the axis. The main etiology of this syndrome is articular chrondrocalcinosis, a microcrystalline arthropathy characterised by precipitation of calcium pyrophosphate dihydrate crystals within cartilage and fibrocartilage.
