- Abstract
- (en) Transmission, translation, traditions, those are the three angles from which I chose to study the ancient translations of the Dodekapropheton, mainly the Septuagint and the Targumim. The first section deals with the material conditions of textual transmission, with an emphasis put on the textual flexibility as witnessed by the Qumran library, as indeed their scribes received and used a great many variant readings, born either accidentally or intentionally. The translation section focuses mainly on the choice the Greek translators had to make for an accurate and reliable translation between a translation according to the letter or to the meaning. The fact that those translators were influenced by large by the Aramaic language and traditions as fixed in the Targumim is illustrated by many examples, especially from the Proverbs, where some variants readings of the Greek text clearly points to an Aramaic source. Some hermeneutic traditions (e.g. the metathesis, the gezerah shawah, the chase of anthropomorphisms) made their way through the entire biblical scene, be it the Hebrew Masoretical text, the Qumran Commentaries or the Versions.
