This paper aims at understanding whether novices entrepreneurs hosted in a business incubator adopt effectual and/or causal behaviors to create and develop their venture. We have studied the entrepreneurial process of 4 start-ups in a longitudinal way to capture the decisions and the actions taken by each entrepreneur. Transcriptions of the interviews were analysed using variables that help operationalize causal and effectual dynamics. Observation and documents analysis were also used as research methods. Preliminary results tend to show that incubated novice entrepreneurs adopt both causal and effectual behaviors and that they rather use effectuation to solve problems and overcome obstacles.
