(en) [Humanitarian psychiatry and trauma of war: critical analysis and recommendation for mental health projects] Mental health issues have recently been given priority in humanitarian medicine. Most of the time, the projects have three major assumptions: the focus on PTSD, a public health preventive goal based on alarming epidemiological data, and the predominance of the western therapeutic model. After a critical analysis of literature and field experiences, goals of mental health projects must be reconsidered. To focus on repercussions of these symptoms on individuals and community social functioning, rather than on psychotraumatic symptoms, has many advantages.
