Abstract
This is the Belgian contribution to the comparative analytical overview on Industrial relations in the postal sector Since the liberalization of postal services, an increasing number of players are active on the belgian market. Besides La Poste , the four major international integrators (DHL, FEDEX, TNT, UPS) have a major share in the express delivery market. In addition to these large integrators, about 800 companies and self-employed workers are also active in the postal sector in Belgium. The particular structure of the sector explains the double presence of three traditional labour unions of the public sector, and of the employees of the private sector. The management contract and the strategic plan elaborated by la Poste and its shareholder the Danish Post plans a modernization of the agencies network (1302 agencies at present), among which one on four only is now profitable. The new partners of La Poste promise higher customer satisfaction in location, in proximity and in office hours. But labour unions already worry about the disappearance of offices for the benefit of points post in rural districts. According to union source, with the liberalization of the sector in 2009, only five or six operators will ensure mail distribution in Belgium.
