Abstract
Inflammatory processes are an integral part of many pathologies and involve numerous molecular mediators, including bioactive lipids. The study of the role of lipid mediators in inflammation is a very active area of research. In this thesis, we set out to develop and validate analytical methods - based on mass spectrometry - for measuring two classes of lipids in biological matrices. Firstly, prostaglandins and their glycerol and ethanolamide analogues, whose properties in the context of inflammation are being extensively studied. Secondly, short-chain fatty acids which are key mediators in the communication between the microbiota and the host. The methods we have developed should facilitate the study of these mediators in physiological and pathological contexts.
