Abstract
Politics seem to have been absent from the Belgian French-speaking television news in its early years. Direct and one-sided government statements however were broadcast. According to the first INR statutes the minister in charge of television and radio broadcasting could directly intervene. Yet, the Belgian francophone system never matched the political bold of the French government on the RTF, guaranteeing the INR a certain level of independence.
