- In 2005, a reform aiming at reorganizing Belgian mental health supply around networks and care circuits organized along the needs of mentally ill persons has begun. The working conditions in mental health networks are experimented through the “therapeutic projects” and the “transversal dialog”. These two consultation devices offer an opportunity to observe the inner working of new policy settings which collectively entrust different actors, relying on political, administrative, professional or profane logics, with a reflexive mandate. This paper reports the results of a case study of the cluster “adults suffering from mood disorders” of the “transversal dialog”. The whole experiment realized on this scene is presented in three Acts that represent the successive steps of a translation (Callon 1986). Indeed, while the transversal dialog aims at producing hybrid knowledge on mental health sector, providing policy actors with relevant insights in the perspective of the reform, it constitutes a “stage” where the problematization of the mental health world is negotiated. However, the way policy actors have received the hybrid discourse produced by the field actors raise questions as to the actual objectives of the experimentation: does the transversal dialog produce knowledge on mental health sector or does it instil a culture of the controversy?
