- (en) Originally seen as a corrective to the implementation of the principle of the free movement of persons in the Schengen area, the European internal security project has since become one of the European Union's political priorities. From a marginal position, security issues are now in the political and media spotlight, and this area of action is one of the most dynamic at Community level. The aim of this article is both panoramic and programmatic. It aims to highlight the value of a long-term approach to the study of developments in the field of internal security in Europe. It shows that European security issues, because they question the most essential functions of nation states, are a rich field of research for those who want to understand the re-composition of the European political order.
