Abstract
Examines the effect of an alloying element such as copper, iron, manganese or boron on the mechanical properties of Al-5.7% Ni, hardened by dispersion of fine intermetallic particles and by severe plastic deformation by isostatic extrusion or by swaging. Tensile tests were carried out at 20, 200 and 260 degrees C, respectively. As expected, the addition of small amounts of copper, iron or manganese, followed by severe plastic deformation by isostatic extrusion, increases the hardening. Copper and manganese are especially efficient not only at room temperature but also at high temperatures. Boron has but a slight influence on the hardening but it increases the ductility at high temperatures.
