Abstract
In a changing and globalized world of work, the way workers experience their expatriation can no longer be limited to firm-level perspectives. Self-initiated expatriates (SIEs) are known for being challenging to retain. SIEs have seen their international mobility questioned due to its capacity to bring them success and failure at the same time. Moving beyond organizational perspectives, our study lets SIEs voice their own conception of failure through in-depth interviews.
