- (en) Peroxiredoxin 5 (PRDX5), also called AOEB166/PMP20/ARCl/PrxV, is a novel antioxidant protein that belongs to the new antioxidant family of peroxiredoxins (PRDXs). The PRDX5 gene is well conserved through the évolution and is well expressed in mammals. The aim of this study is to describe the expression of PRDX5 in rat tissues, and to correlate the biochemical data and the physiological context in order to gain insight into the function of this enzyme in mammals. Firstly, to get a better characterization of the in vivo protein distribution, we analyzed the expression of PRDX5 protein in adult rat tissues by Western blotting and immunohistochemistry methods. A great number of tissues were dissected and processed for paraffin histochemistry. The specificity of the anti-PRDX5 antibody, developed in rabbits immunized with the PRDX5 recombinant protein, was verified by an adsorption test. A significant expression of PRDX5 was observed in tissues presenting high metabolic activity and épithélial cell lining. These data obtained through histological analysis were correlated with cellular physiology.
