We collected data from 15 countries distinguishing between four religious dimensions: believing, bonding, behaving, and belonging. Bonding and belonging predicted increased life satisfaction partly because of religious people’s other- and world-oriented traits: agreeableness, openness to experience, and extraversion. Believing and behaving predicted the opposite due to questing and norms-oriented dispositions.
