The Demiurge's speech to the Young Gods in Platos' Timaeus 41 A-B is a very interesting one. It turns out to have an informative and a performative value, as Proclus points it out in his commentary. The rhetorical impact of the speech is identical with his creative craft. The paper considers how the Church Fathers took this rhetorical dimension of the speech into account. Surprisingly enough, only Augustine turns out to show some interest in this topic. We have to wait until Giovanni Pico della Mirandola 's celebrated De dignitate hominis to find out a real christian reception of the Demiurge's Address. The paper tries to explain why.
