- In the last decades, Brazilian external policy has emerged in a significant manner on the international landscape. Since the return of the democratic institutions in 1985, the successive Presidents have built the institutions, stabilized the currency and launched a process of socio-economic development that has benefited to a larger part of the population. The 8 years of President Lula (2003-2010) have marked an important step in the process of the strengthening and recognition of Brazil as a key regional and international player. Under the leadership of President Lula and of his External Relations Minister Celso Amorim, Brazil has become more visible, more vocal, more influential and more assertive.
