This thesis focuses on physical activity (PA) among students in higher education. Literature emphasizes the importance of social support for PA (SSPA) in the goal of practicing PA. The purpose of this thesis is to improve the understanding of the complexity of PA practice among students in higher education. This thesis addresses three main research questions: 1) What are the associations between fluctuations in sources and types of SSPA and identified fluctuations in PA related to life events (LE) among students in higher education? 2) How does the SSPA sources and types contribute to PA practice among students in higher education? 3) How does the practice of PA fluctuate with LE among students in higher education? The results highlight the importance of SSPA for PA practice and the influence of LE on PA practice during the student life period, in particular by the changes in SSPA associated with LE. The thesis confirms the necessity of a systemic approach to understanding PA practice.
