- In 1989, the authors. who are responsible for a unit comprising 22 beds for full hospitalization, set up a hospitalization model which involved 2 periods of 9 days in hospital separated by 9 days when the patient returned home. Statistical comparison of the durations of hospitalization based on a sample of 100 patients hospitalized in 1985, in other words before this system of two-stage hospitalization was set up, versus 100 patients hospitalized in 1995 reveals that this approach has reduced the length of stay of patients with mood disorders from 21 days to 17 days.
