Abstract
Sartorius muscles of frogs, poisoned with 1-fluoro-2,4-dinitro-benzene (FDNB, which inhibits creatinephosphokinase)) are tetanized for two seconds six times at 6 minutes apart, at 0 ° C. The muscles are shortened during tetanus at a velocity controlled by a pneumatic ergometer, and the force Pr maintained at a given speed is related to the isometric force Pm maintained just before the shortening. The force-velocity relation was defined by the exponential equation of AUBERT (1956). The repetition of tetanus does not change the velocity constant B but increases linearly the “friction” force f. FDNB increases the effect of tetanus repetition on the force constant f by approximately four times, without modifying the velocity constant B.
