- (en) In the Catholic Church, provincial councils are rare, both as events in ecclesial life and as objects of study. In theory, nonetheless, they have always been recognized as important, including during Vatican II. The author will begin by setting out a historical outline, then analyse the provincial council of Lille (2013-2015), and finally present several ecclesiological issues that are both questions and perspectives. The conclusion is that the synodality deployed in a provincial council enables triple re-inforcement: of the local Church, of the bishopric and of the Church understood as the people of God and temple of the Spirit.
