- Abstract
- Since 2011, Syria has been shaken by armed conflicts that have profoundly disrupted local social relations as well as national political and territorial issues. This thesis analyses, in this context, the daily life within the war in northeastern Syria. To do this, I base myself on ethnographic fieldwork carried out between 2019 and 2023. The study of this daily life leads to an account of the dependence of local lives on the geopolitical sphere. Thus, the multiple interplay of influences of the different actors present has the power to seal futures, spaces and time itself. Lives were then built around the fear of invasion by the Turkish state; a feeling built on the trauma of the fall of the Afrin region and Serê Kaniyê. However, it is no longer just a question of invading to have the ability to monitor and kill. Indeed, life under armed drones forges this acute awareness of the randomness of life and death. In parallel with this gaze from below the drones, I analyse the symbolism built by the Turkish state around them with a technonationalist aim. But, despite the war, despite its inclusion in the continuity of past violence, and despite the awareness of annihilation embedded in the memories it has brought, the jiyanê hevbeş, this "common life", continues to be built. For it is with this constant work of polity that, in the words of the field, "existences are realized".
