Abstract
The first part of this paper offers a new analysis of an obscure passage from the dialogue hymn Ṛgveda 10,10 (pāda ṚS 10,10.6d), paying special attention to the meaning of the unclear hapax vī́cyā, which I tentatively translate as ‘taking an obscene posture’. The second part of the paper discusses a number of other formations (foremost, verbal compounds) containing the preverb ví- that are employed in obscene contexts as well as some other lexemes belonging to the sexual register (slang).
